05/31/12 The Park and Recreation Board of the City of Plymouth will hold a public hearing on Monday, June 4th following the Park Board meeting at 5:00 p.m. at the Conservation Clubhouse located at 720 Magnetic Parkway in Plymouth.
This public hearing is being held for the petitions collected and certified in favor of extending park and recreation service to the unincorporated area of Center and West Townships in Marshall County. As of Wednesday afternoon 9 petitions had been submitted to the Marshall County Clerk’s Office for certification and 4 petitions were already certified. A total of 85 names have been certified between the two townships are registered voters. There is a requirement of 40 signatures from Center Township and 27 from West Township to move the petition forward to a resolution for the Park Board to consider. If approved by the Park Board the resolution will move on to the City Council for consideration. If approved by the City Council the voters of Center and West Townships will vote on the expansion on the November ballot.
Park Superintendent Mike Hite said he expects representatives from Umbaugh & Associates to attend the public hearing and discuss the projected funding increase from expanding services into the two townships. It is anticipated that they will be able to give a good ballpark figure on what the average homeowner may have to pay in additional taxes for the expanded services.

Written support or objections to the petitions filed at the Centennial Park Office will be considered and oral comments will be heard during the public hearing. The hearing may be continued from time to time as may be found necessary.
