04/20/12 Plymouth High School students don’t sit on their laurels. After raising $11,005.14 for Riley Hospital for Children in February, success with their first Dance Marathon has students still motivated and “Springing into Action” this weekend to kick off fundraising for next year.

On April 20, 2012, a student-organized raffle will be held during Friday’s home baseball game against arch rival Warsaw Tigers at Bill Nixon Field. Proceeds from the raffle will be the first contributions to the 2013 Dance Marathon.

PHS Dance Marathon is run by students from the Key Club, Student Council, and the class officers.  Numerous students are already hard at work to fundraise and to arrange  the 2013 marathon. The hard work culminates in a 6-hour standing marathon in the winter.

“We’re really excited about keeping the momentum going for 2013. Eleven thousand dollars is a lot of money, but I know that Plymouth can beat that total next year,” said Cassie Gaines, co-President of the PHS Dance Marathon committee. “As a senior, this event is bittersweet for me, but as a Riley kid myself, I’ll continue to support the event from college.”

“I could not be more proud of our kids or more impressed with the generosity of the Plymouth community,” said Stephanie Wezeman, PHS teacher and Key Club Advisor.  “They worked hard to make the 2012 event a tremendous success, and I have no doubt that they will do the same in 2013.”

The success of PHS Dance Marathon relies on students, teachers, family members, community members, corporate sponsors, Ball State University Dance Marathon committee members, and Riley families.  If you want to learn more about PHS Dance Marathon, please feel free to contact Aimee Portteus or Stephanie Wezeman at Plymouth High School: aportteus@plymouth.k12.in.us; swezeman@plymouth.k12.us; 574-936-2178.
