02/20/12 Emergency responders were dispatched to Michigan Road, just north of 11th Road Friday evening when a pedestrian was struck by an SUV. The accident occurred at 7:26 p.m.
According the County Police Officer Nick Laffoon, 17 year old Lauren G. Tanner was traveling north on Michigan Road in a 2009 Chevy Suburban when she suddenly observed a person dressed in dark clothing in the roadway near the fog-line. Tanner struck 18 year old Austin L. Schoff with the right front of her SUV and immediately pulled over and called for help.
Austin Schoff was transported to the Plymouth Airport by Plymouth EMS and Police and airlifted by MedFlight to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with head injuries.
This incident is still under investigation, but police do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.
