08/14/12 Only one quote was received for the roofing project at the Plymouth Fire Department during the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting Monday evening.  Fire Chief Rod Miller said he requested quotes from three companies but only one replied.

Morris & Sons Roofing Inc. from Bourbon presented two options to replace the barrel roof on the older section of the Fire House and the flat roof on the new section.  The two options were $93,611 and $127,536.   The quote was taken under advisement for review with a recommendation to come at the August 27th meeting.

The Fire Chief presented his monthly report and then asked for approval to up-staff the fire station during the Blueberry Festival.  His recommendation was to use a total of 6 volunteers.  Miller said, “We must acknowledge that we need to be prepared for the worst.”  He said, “We are extremely busy that whole weekend.”  His proposal is to use money in his volunteer line item. It is estimated that he will need $4,500 for the additional help.  In previous years they have only had one extra staff.

In other fire department business, Mayor Mark Senter asked about the awning that was damaged in an accident in February 25th of this year.  On March 27th two quotes were received for the repair.  Paul Davis Restoration of Michiana was the low bidder.  In April they were awarded the project but no action has taken place.  The Board of Public Works and Safety decided to give them till next Monday to set a start date and completion date for the project or they will seek new quotes on the project.
