09/26/12 The last day to register to vote in the November 6 election is October 9. According to laws governing voting, registration must be completed 29 days before Election Day. To register, citizens must have photo identification such as an Indiana driver’s license or state ID and documentation of a correct address.

For registered voters who have moved, the deadline for voter registration transfer is 30 days prior to the Election Day.

There are several ways to register including: Applying at the Marshall County Clerk’s Office, Bureau of Motor Vehicles, public libraries, at several state agencies (i.e. WIC, Division of Family and Children, Real Services, etc.), or town Clerk-Treasurer offices. Additionally, there are voter registration applications in IRS documents.

According to Shelly Brown, Marshall County voter registration, the Clerk’s office is in the process of updating registrations. She said the office has been getting notifications from other states for those who have moved. Brown said, “I haven’t run a report yet to know how many new registrations, but there have been several people registering to vote.”

Brown said absentee voting will begin at the Clerk’s office on October 8 from 8:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and12:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Additionally, voters can take advantage of absentee voting on Saturdays, October 27 and November 3. Times on both Saturdays are from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Indiana state laws require all voters to present photo identification at polling sites prior to voting. Information on designated polling sites and registration can be found at www.indianavoters.com.
