07/20/12 Annette Ray of Bourbon recently performed a concert of patriotic music at miller’s Senior Living Community. Ray is a member of the Marshall County Church Orchestra and also plays in several ensemble groups.

Ray began her program by playing “The Star Spangled Banner” on her alto saxophone.  She the went into “This Is My Country” giving some interesting facts about the song including that it is played every evening during the  fireworks display at Disney Land and Disney World.

Ray also plays the flute and piccolo.  She played several hymns using her flute and marches with her piccolo.  She invited Miller’s Activity Director Cindy Flagg who plays cornet to join her on the songs “America The Beautiful”, “God BlessAmerica” and “The Salute to the Armed Forces.

Other songs in Ray’s line-up included “When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again”, “You’re A Grand Old Flag”, “Dixie”, and “Columbia, Gem of the Ocean”.  She ended her program with the ever-popular Sousa march “Stars and Stripes, Forever”.

Ray will return to Miller’s in November for a Thanksgiving program.  Anyone wishing to receive Miller’s monthly events calendar should call 936-9801 and ask for Anna Corbett or Cindy Flagg.
