02/15/12 On Thursday, February 9th at approximately 10:30 a.m. the Marshall County 9-1-1 Center requested an officer to respond to the area of US 30 between Queen Road and State Road 17 for two semi’s that were complaining of road-rage.
Both semis were traveling eastbound on US 30. The victim John Drury told the officer that he was in the passing lane and the suspected offender Jerome Higgins was in the driving lane approaching Queen Road.
The State Highway Department was doing road work, shutting down the passing lane. Drury started to merge into the driving lane with the expectations that Higgins was going to slow down and let him in. Higgins became upset and claimed that Drury was going to run him off the road. Higgins eventually slowed down and got behind Drury until the end of the construction, zone then he sped up and went into the passing lane and came side to side with the victim at Pioneer Road intersection when both parties began to yell at each other. Higgins became upset and threw a wrench at Drury from his semi, striking Drury’s semi. After calling 9-1-1 Drury stayed behind Higgins until the police arrived and pulled Higgins semi over just east of SR 17.
