08/21/12 Indiana Conservation Officers investigated an Over the Road Vehicle accident that occurred on Sunday around 3:45 pm. According to Conservation Officer Guido Tims, Sam Gagnon of Rochester was operating an ORV at 1133 Spatzen Nest Court in Rochester when the ORV he was operating in a field hit a bump. After hitting the bump Sam’s right foot slipped off of the foot rest and landed on the ground. Sam’s right foot was then run over by the rear wheel and Sam was thrown from the ORV. Sam was transported to Woodlawn Hospital where he was treated and released for a broken right foot. Officer Tims said alcohol was not a factor in this accident but that Sam was not wearing any protective gear at the time of the accident.

Conservation Officers urge operators and passengers of ATVs to follow all manufacturers’ safety recommendations, including the manufacturer’s recommended capacity.  Information on ATV safety can be located online through the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America at atvsafety.org or by calling 800-887-2887.
