Rockies roll close to NLC title after 28-16 win over Goshen

On a wet & soggy Foreman Field in Goshen the Plymouth Rockies pulled out a hard earned win over the Goshen Redskins 28-16.  The shorthanded Rockies lost starting runningback Sam Stevens midway through the first half and starting quarterback Ike Kastner before the first half ended, and starting offensive linemen Adam Lacefied in the second half.

“What rotten luck in a win”, said Plymouth Coach John Barron.  “Our kids played well throughout the adversity though.  Anytime you get a win at Goshen, you’ve accomplished something.   The good news is we will find out this week whose coming back this week, hopefully all three.”

Plymouth racked up 339 yards off offense, 283 on the ground.  Justin Drudge finished with 88 of those yards and a brilliant 44 yard touchdown scamper with 1:42 left in the ballgame to seal the win.

“Justin is one of those kids who has great “cutback” ability.  He sees the field really well.   He has also developed a knack for the big play.  I thought Elliot Eads ran well (8 carries-38 yards).”, said Coach Barron.

The Rockie defense also played well allowing Goshen just 38 rushing yards on 29 plays.

“Goshen typically likes running in between the tacks.   I felt our linebackers had a great game, specifically junior-Micheal Hartman.  Ethan Sampson was tackling everything in sight.  Vincente Vasquez continues to improve.  These kids have been improving every game”, added Barron.

“We will not be changing things up even if we lose those three players.  We feel we are solid on both sides of the  football.  Kyle Lacefield played well in his role as back-up last night.  He has varsity experience and has taken a lot of “reps” already.  He just needs to make little adjustments in his game.  His time on an undefeated Junior Varsity squad has been helpful.”, said Barron.

The final regular season game is next Friday at “The Rockpile” against Northwood.  If Plymouth should win, they will have a share of the NLC Title.   Tim Martin Tailgate Show on WTCA will start at 5pm.
