05/21/12 Two incoming freshmen attending Purdue University in the fall of 2012 have been awarded renewable scholarships through the Samuel Elliot Perkins IV Memorial Scholarship at the Marshall County Community Foundation.
Jennifer Marie Sullivan of Argos High School was the recipient of a $7,500.00 renewable scholarship (total award $30,000.00) and Ruthie Enamorado of Bremen High School was the recipient of a $2,500.00 renewable scholarship (total award $10,000.00). Nine other graduating seniors will receive one-time scholarships ranging from $1,000.00 to $2,000.00 at their respective schools during school award ceremonies. Awards for current Purdue students will be made in early June. This is the third year for the scholarships. Applicants must be a permanent resident of Marshall County, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate participation in school and extracurricular activities. The scholarship can be used for tuition, room and board, required fees and books.
The Purdue Alumni Club of Marshall County serves as the Scholarship Advisory Committee. The group provides a local activity center for alumni and friends of Purdue University supporting local student scholarships and sponsoring various activities for academic and athletic events.
The Samuel Elliott Perkins IV Memorial Scholarship was created through an estate gift from Mary Collins Perkins in memory of her husband for the purpose of providing annual scholarships to Marshall County residents pursuing a degree from Purdue University. The Marshall County Community Foundation is a public charity with local roots that helps great ideas take flight through endowment philanthropy.
