02/24/12 Thursday’s thick fog was the cause of an accident at the intersection of US 30 and Pioneer Drive.

Plymouth Police Officer Ray West investigated the two semi crash in the eastbound lanes of US 30 at 8 a.m. Thursday.  His report indicates that one eastbound semi was stopped for the traffic light and the second semi apparently didn’t see the light due to the fog.  That driver swerved to avoid the collision with the stopped semi but struck the trailer ripping the side open.

The contents of the semi-trailer were empty aluminum spray cans of an engine additive. Thousands of cans were dumped on the roadway causing traffic in the east bound lanes to be stopped for a short period of time.

INDOT sent a snowplow truck to the scene to push the cans to the berm.  Reichert & Knepp Wrecker Service out of Bourbon emptied the remaining cans from the trailer and spent the afternoon on the scene using a bobcat to pick up the cans.
