02/21/12 The Marshall County Commissioners had a short meeting Monday morning.

Jennifer Laurent, Executive Director of the Marshall County Economic Development Commission gave them an update on their 2011 activities.  She noted several companies who expanded their operations and added 220 employees last year.  Laurent said business retention and expansion is their first priority.  She also discussed the changing trends in workforce and the need to have a trained workforce.

County Highway Superintendent Neal Haeck presented several road cuts.  He also spoke with Starke County about them making pug for the county early this spring.  He presented the annual report for review with approval anticipated at their next meeting.  Haeck also said a County plow truck was struck following a two vehicle accident at the intersection of King Road and Lincoln Highway.

County Attorney Jim Clevenger said the appraisers for the Eckard condemnation were to report to the court on Monday with their appraisals.  He presented a resolution indicating support for Route 35 of the Indiana Bike Trails which will cross the southern part of the county.
