08/17/12 On Wednesday, August 15th at approximately 5:04pm. The Starke County 911 Dispatch Center received a report of a motorcycle vs. tree accident on State Road 10 just west of the Bass Lake Beach.

When emergency responders arrived they found a single rider unconscious but still breathing on the ground next to the motorcycle. EMS and firefighters loaded the patient into the ambulance and transported the male subject to I.U. Starke Hospital where he later died from his injuries. The driver, William Wagner age 55 lived less than one mile from the scene of the accident.

Officers at the scene determined that the motorcycle went left of center just prior to the start of a curve. The motorcycle then went into the ditch, struck a raised driveway causing to go airborne. When the motorcycle came back down it landed on its front wheel, the back of the motorcycle then became airborne and the driver and motorcycle struck a tree.

There were no witnesses to the accident and the reason for the motorcycle leaving the roadway has not been determined.

The Starke County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Starke County EMS, Bass Lake Fire and the Starke County Coroner.
