10/31/12 Making room in your closet can actually help a Hoosier veteran this fall. Ancilla College is co-sponsoring a Suits for Vets drive for veterans in Northern Indiana.
“According to state employment figures, one third of veterans, ages 24 to 46, are unemployed. Many of those vets need help preparing for interviews and they often lack business-friendly attire for interviews,” said Ancilla admission director Eric Wignall.
“We’re collaborating with Operation 1st Response, WTCA AM 1050, and Burton’s Laundry to reach out to the community and gather donations of ‘gently used’ suits, ties, and business attire for men and women veterans. You can drop by the college, near Plymouth, or any of the other donation sites where you can donate suits between now and November 11th, Veteran’s Day,” Wignall said.
Co-sponsoring the donation drive is part of the college’s longer term efforts supporting area veterans and their families.
“Ancilla College was recognized as one of the country’s ‘Military-friendly Schools’ by GI Jobs Magazine and we are trying to reach out to the large veteran community in our region with information about enrollment and degree options. Ninety percent of Hoosier veterans never use their education benefits after returning from service. We have an open-door approach, offering several short, focused Associate’s Degree paths for veterans that can build on their experience and training,” Wignall said.
The college is located two miles south of US 30 on Union Road near Plymouth. Suits can be dropped off between 9 am and 5 pm inside the main entrance or at the WTCA Radio Station at 112 West Washington Street.
