02/27/12 The Marshall County TRIAD would like to remind citizens to protect themselves against scams.  Recently in the Marshall County area there have been reports that citizens have been contacted about winning sweepstakes money.  They are being requested to send money in order to obtain the money they have won from the sweepstakes.  The money they are sending is to cover legal fees.  In some cases they are sent a check for part of the winnings from which they are to send money to cover these fees.  The checks are fraudulent checks that have been made up by the scammers, which are returned to the citizen by the banks and they are out the money they have deposited.  Any money they have sent is also lost.

The Marshall County TRIAD meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 9:30AM in the Life Enrichment Center on Harrison Street in Plymouth.  Anyone who is interested in learning more about protecting themselves or love ones from Scam Artists is encourage to attend the meetings.

If you feel like you have been a victim of a scam please contact your local Law Enforcement Agency with the information, so they may help you and provide the information to the TRIAD so we can warn others in the community.  You may also contact the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Det. Lt. Duane Culp at 574-936-3187.
