PLYMOUTH – Ancilla College struggled in the 2nd half on Saturday and committed some costly turnovers as they were defeated by Glen Oaks Community College 85-79 in MCCAA Western Conference play.
The Chargers (8-10, 2-6 MCCAA Western) went into half-time with a 34-32 point lead. Joby Renbarger scored 21 of the Chargers’ first half points on 10-10 shooting with ten rebounds. It was the in the 2nd half that the Chargers saw that lead slip away against Glen Oaks (9-4, 1-1 MCCAA Western).
Ancilla head coach Greg Neeley said “We had a short stretch in the second half where their pressure got to us. They are very good in transition, and our turnovers gave them a few too many easy baskets.” The Chargers committed a total of 16 turnovers in the game and Glen Oaks took advantage to pull ahead outscoring the Chargers 53-45 in the second half to secure their third straight win.
Glen Oaks also outshot the Chargers from the foul line converting 16 of 23 attempts for the game while Ancilla was just 9 of 14.
“Getting to the free throw line and converting there is an important part of our offense. Unfortunately, we didn’t get there enough to make that an advantage for us.” Neeley said
Joby Renbarger led the Chargers with 30 points and 15 rebounds while Ben Gilbert also added 10 rebounds.
Ancilla will resume conference play on Wednesday when they will be on the road against Muskegon Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
