Weather observers of all ages are needed to study weather in your backyard. It only takes a few minutes each morning to gather the data needed. This is a community project and everyone can help. These volunteers will provide data in order for the weather service to study the various weather conditions we experience here in the northern part of the state.
There are only a couple of requirements to become and participate as a weather observer. An enthusiasm for watching and reporting weather conditions, a desire to learn more about how weather can affect our lives, a computer and internet connection to report your data and an official 4 inch diameter rain gauge.
The ultimate goal of the program is to have one observer per square mile in urban areas and one observer every 36 square miles in rural areas.
To join and become a weather observer visit the CoCoRaHS home page and fill out an application. All new observers must complete a brief online training session.
