March 7, 2012
By

03/07/12 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A WIND ADVISORY THAT IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EST /7 PM CST/ THIS EVENING…

HAZARDOUS WEATHER WARNING SAYS SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE LATE THIS MORNING INTO THIS AFTERNOON. SUSTAINED WINDS OF 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 45 MPH CAN BE EXPECTED… WITH THE HIGHEST WIND GUSTS THIS
AFTERNOON. THERE IS A CHANCE FOR A FEW WIND GUSTS TO REACH 55 MPH THIS AFTERNOON.

IMPACTS FROM THESE HIGH WINDS COULD CAUSE LOOSE OBJECTS WILL EASILY BLOW AROUND SO MAKE SURE ITEMS SUCH
AS TRASH CANS ARE SECURED OR BROUGHT INDOORS. LARGE TREE LIMBS AND UTILITY LINES MAY BREAK AND SMALL TREES COULD BE UPROOTED.

ALSO HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES SUCH AS RECREATIONAL VEHICLES…CAMPERS AND SEMI TRAILERS MAY BE DIFFICULT TO DRIVE TODAY.

PRECAUTIONARY AND PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN.

A WIND ADVISORY MEANS THAT SUSTAINED WINDS OF 30 MPH…OR GUSTS OVER 45 MPH ARE EXPECTED. WINDS THIS STRONG CAN MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT…ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. USE EXTRA CAUTION.

THE MARSHALL COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT WOULD LIKE TO REMIND EVERYONE TO AVOID DOWN POWER LINES. BE CAREFUL AROUND DOWN TREES AND TREE LIMBS AS THEY MAY HIDE DOWN POWER LINES. DO NOT APPROACH VEHICLES WITH DOWN POWER LINES ON THEM. IF YOU ARE TRAPPED IN A VEHICLE WITH DOWN POWER LINES, IF AT ALL POSSIBLE REMAIN IN THE VEHICLE UNTIL YOU ARE ADVISED BY EMERGENCY PROFESSIONALS THAT IT IS SAFE TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE.
