02/02/12 Wythougan Toastmasters held two speech contests January 27, 2012. Sharon Cudney took first place with her informative speech on Alzheimer’s disease in the International Speech Contest. Charlie Houin was the second place winner with his speech on plant genetics. The International Speech Contest is held once a year in Toastmaster clubs around the world. Winners can advance to Area, Division, District and International level. They present a 5 to 7 minute original speech and are judged by fellow members.
For the first time in Wythougan Toastmaster history a Table Topics contest was held. Contestants were given a topic and asked to give an impromptu speech for 1 ½ to 2 minutes on that topic. Contest chairman, Eric Anderson, chose the topic, “What do you do for cabin fever?” for the contestants. John Oliver won by telling the audience that exercise was the best cure and he gave reasons why he believes that. Andrea Cook was second with her story of how her family enjoys movies and games to cure cabin fever.
