Wythougan Toastmasters Gear Up for 2012 Season

January 25, 2012
By

01/26/12 Wythougan Toastmasters are looking forward to exciting opportunities for communication and leadership growth in 2012.  The executive team for the Wythougan club are Andrea Cook, President; Marianne Peters, VP of Education; Sharon Cudney, VP of Membership; Jan Houin, VP of Public Relations; Teressa Welborn, Secretary/Treasurer; Steve Weaver, Sgt. At Arms.   Offices are held from July 1st – June 30th.

Wythougan officers recently attended a midseason training session in Goshen, IN with other club officers in Division A.  The midseason training is for the club officers to reflect on their first 6 months of service, share their experiences, learn from one another, and find solutions for problems or difficulties they are facing.  Wythougan officers agreed  this was a very beneficial training and will be implementing some new ideas for the local club.

Along with regular weekly meetings where members work to develop their speaking and leadership skills there are contests that members may choose to participate in. The International Speech Contest and  Table Topics Contest will be held at the Wythougan meeting on Friday January 27 from 6:45 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at Christos Family Dining in Plymouth, IN.  The public is invited and encouraged to attend.  Winners will advance to the Area 13 contest.

The International Speech contestants will give an original 5 to 7 minute speech on the subject they choose.  The Table Topics contestants will be given a topic and they will give a 1 1/2 to 2 minute impromptu speech on that topic.  Contestants will be judged by other Toastmaster members.

The mission of a Toastmasters club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every individual member has the opportunity to develop oral communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.  In other words, it’s a place where you can train your butterflies to fly in formation and a place where leaders are made.

Wythougan is excited to welcome two new members to our club, Tim Harner and Darlene Holloway.  Guests are always welcome.  Meetings are every Friday from 6:45 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.  at Christos Family Dining at 2227 N. Michigan St. Plymouth, IN.  For more information call Jan Houin 574-936-1424
