06/01/12 With gas prices higher than the national average and the economy still struggling to rebound many local families are looking for take stay-cations instead of your typical vacations. Well this weekend is your opportunity to take a stay-cation right here in Marshall County with the 6th Annual Yellow River Festival.
This year’s festival will take place this Saturday, June 2nd in River Park Square at the intersection of River and East LaPorte Streets in downtown Plymouth. The Yellow River Festival celebrates the first 30 years of Marshall County history, encompassing 1830’s through the 1860’s, with period music and dancing, storytelling, demonstrations, food, crafts and activities for children.
Proudly presented with no admission charged, this “Family Friendly” festival boasts lots of free entertainment and education, crafts and old fashioned activities this Saturday.
Several local Boy Scout Troops will create a recreation area the kids will truly enjoy. The will be able to test their accuracy with a sling-shot, dog good, and cast iron pans, a Monkey-rope bridge to cross, checkers, toss games, walking stilts and more. A craft tent at the festival will include rope making, button spinners, and hand-dipped bees wax candles. These activities are free for everyone from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m.
Also on the festival grounds will be Civil War re-enactors who will discuss their camp, weaponry, clothing and living conditions. Teressa Welborn will demonstrate chair-caning and their will be tomahawk throwing along with the hourly firing of the cannon.
The Yellow River Festival this Saturday has something for everyone so bring the family and spend an hour, the afternoon or the whole day. You’ll find great entertainment and lots of good food.
