02/15/13 In the absence of Plymouth Aviation Board President Tom Flynn, Phil Bockman call the meeting to order. The first order of business was consideration of a lease extension for Troy Church of Plymouth Sky Sports. The new lease is for 5 years in length and starts at $450 per month with a 3 percent increase for 2014 & 15 and another 3 percent increase for 2016 & 17. The lease amount is based on the square footage used by the business.
A company from Howell has shown interest in a timber sale of the wooded area on the airport property. Airport Manager Dave Lattimer said he received a quote of $17,000 for the purchase of 42 hardwood trees. City attorney Sean Surrisi explained that state law considers the trees to be personal property and therefore the board would have to publish for bids to be accepted on such a project. It was suggested they speak with the engineering consulting firm considering the impact to the environmental studies already completed. Lattimer also said there are three hardwood timber buyers in Marshall County that may be interested in the sale. The tabled any further action and will get more details on a timber sale.
The airport manager also discussed the AWOS (Automated Weather Obsering System) needed for the airport. He said Mayor Senter is writing a letter of support for it. Emergency Management Director Clyde Avery has also written one, and he noted that he uses the one at the Starke County Airport and the Fulton County Airport when threatening weather is about. Lattimer said one of the County Commissioners has also pledged her support for the project and will seek a letter of support for the project from them too.
