Chargers Ready to Start Golf Season

March 19, 2013

The Ancilla Men’s Golf program is anticipating a very exciting and competitive 2013 Spring golf season.  With nine incoming freshmen the enthusiasm is high and the young group of men has been working hard since hitting campus in August of 2012.  Swan Lake’s Silver and Black golf courses had many practice rounds played by this energetic team in the Fall of 2012 with the players working on all aspects of their games.

The 2013 roster holds local talent such as: Fr. Drew Roser (Southwood High School), Fr. Austin Stonebraker (Bishop Dwenger High School), Fr. Cody Bennett (Plymouth High School), Fr. Eric Davis (Triton Central High School), Fr. Jacob Shaw (Southwood High School), Fr. Caleb Armand (Jennings County High School), Fr. Corey Burton (Edinburgh High School), Fr. Levi Winget (Southwood High School), and Fr. Blake Bennet (New Prairie High School).

Head Coach Marc Hayden discussed the team’s preparations in the off season, “The winter months had the team playing and practicing regularly indoors at Swan Lake on the two simulators and tweaking their short games.  March will be an exciting month with the links warming allowing everyone the chance to play outdoors.”

A first will be accomplished by the Ancilla Men’s Golf program, too.  A spring golf trip to Fairfield Glade Resorts in Crossville, Tennessee will allow the team ample practice time before the April 1 match at Swan Lake.

Coach Hayden enthusiastically remarked, “Team and individual goals are lofty for the upcoming season.   Golf matches in Port Huron, Battle Creek, and at several other beautiful Michigan courses will be a challenge the Ancilla Men’s Golf Team looks forward to!”
