04/24/13 Local entertainer Quentin Flagg celebrated his 30th birthday in style with several entertainer friends from across the United States that joined him on stage for a concert and celebrity roast. Flagg began entertaining when he was just 14 years old and through his travels he has met many interesting men and women who share his love of entertaining.
Joining Flagg on stage for his two-day birthday celebration were country/gospel vocalist Sharon Tarwater of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; Rod Stewart tribute artist Steve Bobbitt, of Peoria, Illinois; Elvis and Johnny Cash tribute artist Ed Parzygnat of Chicago, Illinois; and Blue Brothers tribute artist Bill Downey of Plymouth. Also on the line-up and acting as Roast Master for the party was Gene DiNapoli of New York City.
Flagg’s birthday parties have become well-known for the fun and unusual themes he chooses each year as he celebrates. Turning 30 is a milestone for many and Flagg wanted to do something that would be remembered for a long time. He decided on having a roast which he modeled after the much-loved Dean Martin television roasts from 20-30 years ago.
Never one to be selfish, Flagg asked that instead of gifts his fans bring an item to donate to the Marshall County Community Neighborhood Center. And in keeping with a birthday theme he asked that they donate party items.
“The Neighborhood Center is a wonderful organization,” stated Flagg. “I love to help the community any way I can. And while it is very important for them to have the staples they need, I also think it is important for people to have access to some fun items. Items like birthday cakes and candles and party napkins and plates. Items that people may not be able to afford. So for the past couple years my fans have helped supply the Neighborhood Center with these types of things.”
“I have some wonderful fans,” Flagg continued. “I had a show in Cincinnati on Thursday before my weekend shows and my Cinci fans sent home a lot of food with me for the center. Plus, I had fans show up for my weekend birthday party from all around the Midwest. They came from all across Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and New York. And they were VERY generous in their giving to our community Neighborhood Center. I even had friends from Detroit that couldn’t attend and they sent a monetary donation! I appreciate everyone’s generosity!”
Flagg also thanked the businesses in Plymouth who are generous and helpful as he plans his birthday shows and other concerts throughout the year.
“My fans who stay for the entire weekend always talk about the friendly hospitality they encounter in Plymouth,” shared Flagg. “The Days Inn offers a Quentin Flagg discount which is very helpful. And my fans always talk about the great service they receive at Christo’s and other restaurants in town. Several fans told me they couldn’t wait to eat at Ponderosa because the Plymouth Ponderosa is the best around! It makes me very proud to hear these compliments about my town!”
