06/11/13 Plymouth High School is being recognized by the Indiana Department of Education for a 14.8 percent increase in the number of 2012 graduates passing at least one AP (Advanced Placement)exam. The notice forwarded to Daniel Tyree, superintendent of Plymouth Schools, said, “Plymouth High School continues to set the bar for AP student achievements very high in Indiana with 34.1 percent of its 2012 graduates passing at least one AP exam during high school.”
Students successfully scoring at least a three on a scale of five points on an exam given by the College Board of Education are given college credit at any Indiana State college. PHS Principal, Jim Condon said, “It greatly reduces the cost for college for students and their parents.”
Each school in Indiana achieving the honor will be recognized at the Indiana Statehouse Atrium on June 21, 2013. Each school being honored may select five members of their AP instructors or administrators to the celebration. Condon said he would love to attend, but will first extend the invitation to those teachers offering AP courses. He praised teachers for their efforts to expand the course offerings each year.
Presenting the awards will be Deputy Superintendent for Public Instruction Danielle Shockney. Additional invitations to attend the program have been extended to Governor Mike Pence; Commissioner for Higher Education Teresa Lubbers; State School Board members; General Assembly members; and Regional Vice-President for the College Board Greg Walker.
