10/31/13 Plymouth City Engineer Rick Gaul Monday evening asked the Board of Public Works and Safety for approval to close the Bauer Parking Lot and to close the sidewalks on South Michigan Street at the railroad viaduct.
The Board of Public Works and Safety recently approved the low bid of Reith Riley to create a new parking lot at the northwest corner of Garro and Water Streets. Monday night he asked for permission to close the lot beginning Friday, November 1st and continuing through the 25th if necessary. Gaul said excavation should begin on November 1st with placement of new curbs planned for Nov. 4th. He also asked to have the sidewalk closed on the north side of Garro Street for the improvement project and well as occasional closings of the ally.
At the request of the railroad the city engineer asked permission to have the sidewalks under the viaduct on South Michigan Street closed.
Rick Gaul said he received a call from the railroad utility construction company recently indicating they will be making repairs where a van crashed this past winter. They will be using palmer to pin cracks together in the concrete and tuck point the top two layers of the bridge stones.
The project is scheduled to be done November 6th through the 12th with only one sidewalk being closed at a time.
Councilman Wayne Smith was concerned with the number students who walk to school using South Michigan Street. He and Councilman Duane Culp asked to have the school contacted about the proposed sidewalk closings so students could be warned ahead of time.
Gaul also updated the 2013 Mill and Fill Street projects. Work was expected to be completed by the end of business on Tuesday with thermoplastic pavement markings being placed by the end of the week. Gaul indicated that and weather temperatures have made issues for the project.
