Riverside Teachers Grow Hair to Donate for Cancer Wigs

September 22, 2013

09/23/13 John Premetz, 5th grade Language Arts  teacher and Tim Schmidt, Physical Education teacher are part of the education staff at Riverside Intermediate School in Plymouth.  This year they are both growing their hair out so they can cut to support the Pantene Program, “Beautiful Lengths”.

Pantene created “Beautiful Lengths” because healthy hair means a lot to them, and the appearance of healthy hair means so much to women battling cancer. They want to be there for women when looking and feeling healthy is so important to them. As one breast cancer survivor put it, “It was very hard when my hair started falling out. It really takes away who you are when you look in the mirror.”

Mr. Premetz decided to get involved when a longtime friend was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Mr. Schmidt joined John to support the cause.  Upon the growth of 8 inches, they will both cut their hair.

Riverside Principal, Jeni Hirschy said, “They both are looking forward to the day they can get a haircut.”

Beautiful Lengths is a partnership between Pantene and the American Cancer Society, the largest non-profit health organization committed to saving lives from every cancer and improving the quality of life for people facing the disease. The role of Pantene is to help women grow long, strong,* beautiful hair and provide the funds to turn this hair into free, real-hair wigs for women with cancer. So far, Pantene has donated 24,000 free real-hair wigs to the American Cancer Society’s wig banks, which distribute wigs to cancer patients across the country.
