10/03/13 A very special thing happened during the Miller’s Senior Living Community Classic Car Cruise-in In September. Miller’s resident Ike Huls was enjoying himself at the cruise-in just like every other year. He was admiring the cars, visiting with friends and enjoying hot dogs. And then, about half way through the cruise-in, Hoosier Old Wheel club president Duane Bender asked for the microphone.
Bender called Huls to the sign-in desk and made a surprise presentation. Bender presented Huls with an Honorary Lifetime Membership to the Hoosier Old Wheels. Hulls received an H.O.W. license plate, t-shirt, dash board plate, and a flag. Huls accepted the membership and gifts in a state of wonder and shock.
Bender explained to those in attendance that although Huls doesn’t own a car, he is one of the clubs most enthusiastic followers and he shows more interest in the cars and the club than many who are members. The club members are proud to have Huls as a member and a friend.
Huls who has enjoyed cars and car show since he was a young boy was speechless when he received the membership from the H. O. W. When asked what he thought, Huls replied, “I was so surprised and very happy. I was just shocked. I had no idea they would do something like this for me!”
Although Huls has never driven or owned a car he has several favorite vehicles. When asked what car he would choose for a collectible he quickly declared a 1957 4-door black and white Chevy as his favorite followed closely by a 1963 Corvette – any color would be fine!
