12/13/13 Plow truck drivers for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) are rotating shifts today in preparation for the snow that’s predicted to fall in the Northwest Indiana District. Drivers will report to unit locations throughout Indiana at various times depending on local weather forecasts.
Current weather forecasts show snowfall beginning tonight and continuing through tomorrow. Although projections vary across the state, Northwest Indiana could receive between two and six inches of accumulation.
INDOT has crews pre-treating highways this afternoon and will begin patrolling roadways before snow begins to fall. Once the snowfall starts, crews will begin plowing and treating interstates, U.S. highways, and state routes. Crews will be on the roads 24 hours a day, in alternating 12 hour shifts, as long as necessary to ensure roadway conditions remain as safe as possible during winter weather.
Drivers in Northwest Indiana can monitor road conditions and traffic alerts across the state at any time via the District’s social media channels: www.Facebook.com/INDOTNorthwest or Twitter @INDOTNorthwest. Or visit http://www.trafficwise.in.gov for INDOT’s TrafficWise Traveler Information Service.
