BENTON HARBOR, MICHIGAN – In their first road double header of the MCCAA Western Conference season, the Ancilla softball team picked up two big wins, beating Lake Michigan College 5-3 and 14-9.
“These two wins came at the right time for us,” said Ancilla coach Scott Reese. “These young ladies fought through a lot today, mentally, emotionally, and physically to come away with these victories. I’m very proud of the effort and resilience that I saw in action throughout the day.”
Marissa Sullivan threw a complete game without allowing an earned run in game one to earn the victory. The win was her second of the season.

LMC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Chargers answered with one in the second when Kayla Dell scored on a Rohni Beck double. Ancilla added three more in the third on a three run home run by Sullivan. The host Red Hawks added one in the bottom of the third to make it a 4-3 game, but it would be the last run they would score in the game. Ancilla added an insurance run in the fifth when Dell singled, moved to second on a throwing error, scooted to third on a Beck single, and scored on a Courtney Henning single.

Both teams combined for 25 runs on 35 hits in the nine inning affair that was game two, including a combined 9 runs on 11 hits in extra innings.

Stephanie Lamm picked up her second win of the year in relief for Ancilla. Top producers for the Chargers included Henning (4-6, 4 RBI), Dell (3-6, 2 R, 2 RBI), and Courtney Ferrell (3-4, 3 R, 2 RBI). Emily Wilbur, Kayleigh Schroeder, Beck, and Shelby McConnell all rapped two hits, while Sullivan and Hanna Moore garnered two RBI each.

Ancilla stays on the road for a matchup against Kalamazoo Valley Community College today at 3:00 p.m.
