07/03/13 Heartland Artists Gallery was proud to award Angel Okray with the 2013 Heartland Artists High School Art Award at their monthly meeting on June 29th. The award is a $500 scholarship to be applied toward expenses at an accredited college or university.
Angel is a graduate of Culver Community High School and plans to attend the University of Indianapolis this fall. She kept very busy with extra curricular activities in high school including: Culver Alliance for Volunteer Services, Art Club, Business Professionals of America, Students Supporting Our Troops, Varsity Club, National Honor Society, Key Club and Peers Educating Peers.
Angel enjoys drawing in her free time because it helps her express her feelings, relaxes and gives her peace of mind. Her greatest artistic accomplishment to date was working on the mural displayed at Rochester High School. Art has always been a part of her life and she would like it to continue to be a part of her life. Angel was amazed at what her two older sisters could draw and create and this kept her interested enough to start drawing as well. She has enjoyed trying different mediums: pencil, water color, pen and ink and mixed media.
Artist members can show and sell their artistic work at the Heartland Artists Gallery, found on West LaPorte Street, in the heart of Plymouth. The Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday 10:00-4:00. The Gallery displays unique art in many mediums: watercolor, acrylic, oils, pen and ink, sculptures, mixed media, metal work, and photography.
The next Open House Reception, featuring the Artist of the Month, Lisa Lea Bemish and Member of the Month, Perry Olshein will be Friday, July 12th from 5:00-8:00 pm (the same night as Second Friday Plymouth Celebration in downtown Plymouth).
