06/03/13 Emily Ann Alcorn, daughter of Jon and Jacki Alcorn, has earned the distinction of being named the Valedictorian of Argos High School’s Class of 2013.  Emily has earned a 4.122 on a 4.0 scale.

Emily has been active in numerous school organizations and activities during her four years at Argos Jr.-Sr. High School.  She has participated in Pep Band, Marching Band, Variety Show, National Honor Society, Junior Honor Society, Argos Students in Service (ASIS), Sunshine Society and Art Club.   She also has served as President of the Argos Class of 2013 for three years.

She has been involved in basketball (Varsity Letter Winner for one year) and soccer (Varsity Letter Winner for three years).  She also earned an Indiana Soccer Coaches Association All Academic Award for two years and served as captain of her Argos FC U18 Travel Soccer Team for two years.

Emily has volunteered for various organizations including Mission Trip to South Africa and Mozambique, Mission Trip to Dominican Republic, Mission Trips to Elkhart Faith Mission, Mission Trip to Cleveland, Mission Trip to Chicago.  She has also served as a mentor, nursery helper, elementary helper, nursing home volunteer, musician and teen organizer for her church – Cornerstone Church.   She has also tutored students as a National Honor Society member and volunteered at the ASIS/NHS Fair Booth

Emily has received the following awards:  Outstanding Student in Spanish I,  Spanish II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Biology, World History, US History, Government, Economics and Speech.  She also received numerous Art Awards:   Superintendent’s Choice, Student’s Choice and Best 2-D Award.   She also earned the following honors:   High Honor Roll, Indiana Academic All Star Award, American Legion Post Award Americanism Winner, Academic Excellence Award and Academic Honors Plan.

Emily has received the following scholarships:  Max & Lois Edmonds Scholarship, Kathy Stults Memorial Scholarship, Classroom Teachers of America (CTA) Scholarship, Ivy Tech Valedictorian Scholarship, Argos Dollars for Scholars Valedictorian Scholarship

Emily plans to attend Word of Life Bible Institute in New York to prepare for a career as a missionary in Africa.  She also plans to attain an Elementary Education Degree from Liberty University.  Her ultimate goal is to live in Africa and start an orphanage there.

  Kaitlin Marie Howard, daughter of Ralph Howard and Tammy King, has earned the distinction of being named the Salutatorian of Argos Jr.-Sr. High’s Class of 2013.  Kaitlin has earned a 4.038 on a 4.0 scale.

Kaitlin has been active in numerous school organizations and activities during her four years at Argos Jr.-Sr. High School.  She was involved in variety shows, musicals and swing choir.  She was a member of Argos Students in Service (ASIS), serving as Treasurer; Eco Club; Sunshine Society and Argos Business Professionals of America, serving as Secretary this year.  She also participated in Creative Writing Club, serving as Treasurer and Art Club, serving as President. She has been involved in Junior Honor Society and National Honor Society.  She also served as her class Vice President for two years. She also played softball and served as a manager for two years in volleyball and baseball.

Kaitlin has volunteered for various community organizations including National Red Cross Blood Drive and Argos Dollar For Scholars Purdue Glee Club Fundraiser as well as volunteering at her church – Argos Church of Jesus Christ.

Kaitlin has received the following awards:  Outstanding Student in Biology, Chemistry, Algebra II, Speech, English 9, English 11, Spanish II, Spanish III, Spanish IV, World History, US History, Government, Economics as well as Americanism Test Winner, Academic High Honors, High Honor Roll, Academic Excellence Award and Academic Honors Diploma.  She also earned a 4 Year Blanket Award in Choir.  Kaitlin has received numerous awards from Business Professionals of America at the district, state  and national levels.  She was the only Argos student to compete at the National BPA Conference in Chicago her junior year, placing 3rd in the Basic Office Systems & Procedures at the BPA State Conference.  In her senior year, she was one of seven Argos students whom competed at the National BPA Conference in Orlando (Advanced Office Procedures) and received an Ambassador Torch Award.

Kaitlin has received the following scholarships: Ball State University Presidential Tuition Scholarship, Ball State University Presidential Room & Board Scholarship, Argos Students in Service (ASIS) Scholarship, Argos Dollars for Scholars Salutatorian Scholarship

Kaitlin plans to attend Ball State University to study Zoology or Wildlife Biology.
