03/01/13 The Auto Park in Plymouth is going to the dogs, literally.  This Saturday the Auto Park is holding a donation oil changes with 100% of the proceeds going to the Plymouth Park for the Dog Park.

The Dog Park has been discussed the past couple of years and was placed on the Park Department’s 5-Year plan in 2012.  With funding so tight a committee got together to fundraiser for the project and created the Bow-Wow Friends.

Fundraising became the Bow-Wow Friends main focus and within a few months the necessary funds, $16,000 was raised to erect the fencing structure.  A large area is fenced in with an entryway, and then two separate fenced areas, one for large dogs and another one for smaller dogs.   The fences are up and the facility is usable although the committee has more they would like to do.  Drinking fountains for dogs and humans, benches, dog toys, lightening and pooper-scooper stations are still yet to be funded.

This Saturday everyone is invited to one of the Auto Park’s locations, on West Jefferson Street or the shop in front of the airport from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.   for a oil change and instead of paying the Auto Park, you’ll make a donation to the Dog Park.  Representatives from the Dog Park committee will be at both locations to answer your questions and assist with the donations.

The Dog Park is located behind the Fryman Shelter near the tennis courts in Centennial Park.  The fencing project has been completed and the facility is open for you and your pet to enjoy.
