05/22/13 Banjo player extraordinaire Trilly Cole rounded out Mother’s Day weekend with a Monday afternoon concert at Miller’s Senior Living Community May 13th.  Cole who has performed across the United States throughout her musical career entertained at Miller’s Merry Manor and Miller’s Assisted Living.  She topped the day off with a private performance at Trinity Methodist Church for their Mother’s Day banquet.

Cole who began playing banjo at an early age grew up in northwest Indiana.  At the age of eighteen she headed to Nashville, Tennessee.  There she performed on famed Printer’s Alley; three concerts a day, six days a week for many years.  She also performed in Las Vegas, Detroit, and many other venues.

Cole’s musical talent along with her down-home country humor makes her a crowd favorite.  She begins her show with a fast paced instrumental song.  As the song draws to an end, Cole quips, “I wrote this song myself!  It’s called “Get Your Attention!!”  And with that the audience is caught up in an hour of fast paced music and humor.

Cole shared a song that was written specifically for her but never became a hit because “the title is too long to fit on the record label”.  The song fit’s Trilly to a “t” stating: “There Ain’t Nothin’ Like a Real Northern Indiana, Home-Grown, Small –Town, Country Girl.”  Cole’s repertoire includes popular bluegrass hits such as “Rocky Top” as well as the tender “I’ll Be Loving You, Always” and the lilting “Laura’s Theme” from the movie “Dr. Zhivago”.

Between musical selections and silly jokes, Cole spoke of memorable events throughout her musical career.  She closed her concert with lively, patriotic sing-a-long songs.

At the close of Cole’s concert – much to her surprise – Cole was presented with a corsage from a special guest in the audience.  Darrell Plough and his friends had traveled from Kalamazoo, Mi. to surprise Cole, whom he hadn’t seen for many years.  Plough, Fred Hartman and Mike Bielksi were invited to dine with Cole in Miller’s Oak Hill Café before her concert at Trinity Methodist Church.

Many Miller’s events are open to the public.  To be added to Miller’s mailing list call 574-936-9801 and ask for Anna Corbett or Cindy Flagg.
