08/29/13 On August 24th state troopers from the Bremen State Police Post conducted a sobriety checkpoint for three hours in South Bend. The Saturday checkpoint started at 11:00 p.m. and concluded at 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning.

The checkpoint was run in conjunction with the Operation Pull Over Blitz campaign, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”. This national enforcement effort is supported by federal funding allocated to the Traffic Safety division of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. Nearly 10,000 law enforcement agencies across the country participate in this annual enforcement effort.

Trooper’s working the checkpoint had 159 vehicles pass through in three hours. They made four DUI arrests and two arrests for possession of marijuana. They also cited one individual for an open container violation and two subjects for driving while suspended.

Troopers will be conducting saturation patrols targeting impaired drivers through September 2nd.
