Marsha and I extend our condolences and also our gratitude for his shining example of a life well-lived.”

State Representative Tim Harman from Bremen released the following statement:  “Never has there been a man so respected, so genuine and so well-liked to serve the state of Indiana than Governor, Otis R. Bowen.  “Doc” provided all of us with a model life to follow and was the epitome of a true public servant. On Saturday we lost a statesman, a gentleman, and a friend. Our thoughts and prayers truly go out for the Bowen family along with our gratitude for their sacrifice, in sharing with us, one of the greatest public servants this state and nation has ever known.”

Congresswoman Jackie Walorski (IN-02) released the following statement regarding the passing of former Governor Otis Bowen:

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Governor Otis Bowen.  During his incredible career, he touched the lives of Hoosiers across the state and Americans nationwide—demonstrating an unwavering commitment to public service.  A household name in Northern Indiana, Governor Bowen opened a family medical practice in Bremen after serving in World War II before moving on to the State House and later serving under President Ronald Reagan.”

“Governor Bowen was a trusted advisor to me in the State House, always delivering words of wisdom and kind guidance.  He will long be remembered for his humble nature and admirable passion to help others—qualities we should all strive to emulate.  Dean and I send our thoughts and prayers to with his wife, Carol, and their family during this difficult time”

He is revered because of his memorable accomplishments as our Governor, especially property tax reform, but also because he never forgot his small town roots. He was a great man, he was a humble man and he was a Hoosier through and through. There will never be another one like him.”

Monday, Senator Joe Donnelly released the following statement after hearing of the passing of former Indiana Governor Otis “Doc” Bowen.

“Doc was one of the best examples of Hoosier leadership, as he worked tirelessly to improve the lives of families across our great state.  From his days practicing medicine in Bremen, Indiana to his two terms as governor and work as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, Doc lived in service to his community, state, and nation.  My family and I extend our deepest sympathies to Governor Bowen’s family during this difficult time.”
