03/06/13 Marshall County Superior Court Judge Dean Colvin asked the County Commissioners to approve the hiring of an independent contractor to fill the temporary Leave-Of-Absence for current director Steve Pifer during their meeting Monday.
Colvin said that Pifer is scheduled be off from March 13th through April 13th for a medical procedure. He explained that the Director’s position is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week since they are overseeing the Home Detention Program. Colvin asked to hire Ron Babcock, a former city police officer, former probation officer and most recently the Captain for the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
The County Commissioners approved the interim independent contractor contract for $2,100. The Judge clarified that the position would not include any benefits.
Judge Colvin told the County Commissioners that the numbers are increasing for the home detention program and that he may be back in the near future to re-organize the department and possibly hire a permanent part-time employee to help oversee the increasing number of clients on the program.
