01/21/13 The Marshall County Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday. Agenda for the meeting includes Sheriff Tom Chamberlin and Prosecutor David Holmes who need to discuss the dramatic increase in the contract for Great Lakes Lab.
County Attorney Jim Clevenger told the County Council last week the terms of the contract have changed and the price had increased. The 2012 contract was for $42,240 with unlimited tests. This year’s contract is nearly doubled at $84,000 with limitation on the number of submissions. The contract is shared between the Sheriff’s Department and the Prosecutors Office. Neither office budgeted for this excessive increase.
Other agenda items include the quarterly report of Linda Rippy, Executive Director of the Marshall County Museum. The Auditor will present the January 7th meeting minutes and the January mid-month claims. The Highway superintendent will report as well as the County attorney.
Another issue to be discussed is rather the County Commissioner want the County EMA to remain a part of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. The stringent requirements that must be met by all counties involved including those such as Marshall with only a one person department to those that have as many as four or five department members.
The Commissions will have opportunity to meet Bruce Breeding from Beam Longest & Neff and learn about the company he represents.
Under Commissioner items, an appointment to the County Plan Commission and the Culver – Union Township Public Library and the 2013 Covered Bridge Certification.
The Commissioners meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. in their second floor meeting room of the County Building on Tuesday.
