02/18/13 Congresswoman Jackie Walorski (IN-02) released the following statement on the bipartisan passage of H.R. 273, to eliminate a statutory pay adjustment for federal employees:

“With a national debt of $16.5 trillion, I applaud my colleagues for passing legislation to freeze pay for federal employees including the Vice President, Cabinet Secretaries, and Members of Congress.  This simple bill is a common sense measure to prove that Washington is serious about addressing our fiscal crisis to reduce spending and revitalize the economy.

“In Indiana, Hoosier families sit around their kitchen table and make tough decisions to keep a budget, and it is time for Washington to do the same.  I look forward to supporting future legislation that carves out a step-by-step approach toward reducing wasteful spending and restoring fiscal sanity.  I urge my colleagues in the Senate to immediately pass this bill, signaling to American families that this Congress will work together on their behalf.”
