12/13/13 Tuesday evening members of the Marshall County Council held a special night meeting due to the Veterans Day holiday on Monday and Tuesday being the final day to pay property taxes.
The meeting was short meeting included consideration of additional appropriations for the County Council and the Argos Community Schools. County Auditor Penny Lukenbill explained the short fall in the Travel & Mileage line item. In May the Association of Indiana Counties sent an invoice for the 2012 conference that wasn’t paid last year. The invoice was taken care of in May causing the $200 additional so the 2013 conference invoice can be paid.
The second additional was for the Argos Community Schools. Because the school board is appointed and not elected their budget must be approved and adopted by the County Council. The DGLF has decided that additional must now be approved by the County Council too. The additionals approved were $6,000 for bus replacement and $100,000 from the rainy day fund to make sure money is available for salaries and the end of the year if necessary.
County Auditor Penny Lukenbill said the larger number of transfers are “department heads really looking ahead to December and anticipating shortfalls.” She noted that many short falls are in the overtime line items.
