01/16/13 The Marshall County Council held their first meeting of the new year on Monday morning and voted to retain the current officers; Matt Haskins President and Don Morrison as Vice President. Judy Stone was again appointed to serve the council as the MACOG representative and will actually be the 1st Vice-President of MACOG this year.

The two new council members, Jon VanVactor and Steve Harper were welcomed and each accepted several liaison assignments.  Harper will be the liaison for the Clerk’s Office, Superior Court II, County Museum, and Tech Committee rep. Van Vactor accepted liaison positions with Court Services, Circuit Court, Emergency Management, and Solid Waste.  He will join Stone on the Personnel Committee, accepted the officer of Councilman Rex Gilliland to be liaison for the Veterans Service Office and in exchange Gilliland will become liaison for Superior Court I.

Marshall County Treasurer, Deb VanDeMark was given permission to begin the process to replace the second deputy in her office.  VanDeMark said Ilene Morrison has submitted her retirement effective for the end of February.  The treasurer said, “Ilene has work for 6 different treasurers during her 30 years with the county.  She is a very well round person who has done a great job for the county and will be missed.” The council granted her request.

In other business the County Council appointed Mark Wickizer from Polk Township to be their representative on the County Board of zoning Appeals. His appointment replaces Don Ecker. They also appointed Joyce Grabel to the Bremen Library Board.
