02/01/13 It will be a homecoming of sorts as four Culver Academies’ alumni come to town with the Southern Methodist University polo teams for matches this weekend.

The boys will take to the Jud Little Riding Hall Friday at 7 p.m. with the girls playing Saturday at 10 a.m. The matches will be held in the Vaughn Equestrian Center and there is no charge for admission.

Three Michiana-area athletes are also current members of the Academies’ teams. Seniors Lenny Logue of South Bend and Natalie Hogan of Plymouth ride for the girls’ team, while senior Peter Foersch of Culver will be playing for the Culver boys.

The Friday match will feature CMA polo alumni Enrique Ituarte, who graduated in 2009, and August Scherer ’10 playing for SMU. That will pit Enrique against his brother Manuel Ituarte ’13, who plays for the Culver boys. On Saturday polo alumni Pam Flanagan ’08 and Caroline Wilcoxon ’11 will be playing for the SMU.

The SMU match will serve as a tuneup for both Culver teams as they prepare for the U.S. Polo Association Interscholastic Central Regionals. Culver will host the four-team women’s regional Feb. 15-17. Making the trip to Culver will be Hillside from Wisconsin, Longhorn Polo from Austin, Texas; and the Houston Polo Club.  Seedings will be determined Friday. Game times are 7 p.m. Friday (Feb. 15) and 10 a.m. Saturday, with the championship at 10 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 17).

The Culver boys will begin in the Central Regional Preliminaries Feb. 7-10 in Houston.
