08/09/13 This Friday, Music in the Park will feature music with the flavor of the ‘40’s with Boogie Woogie Babies, a vocal trio comprised of three versatile, talented, entertaining and busy West Michigan vocalists and accompanied by one of the area’s finest pianists. Formed in 1993, they will be performing a ‘40’s Revue, a two-act theatrical review of the 1940’s and includes harmonies and songs of the Andrews Sisters, historical trivia and audience participation.

The group is comprised of three of West Michigan’s finest vocalists—Francesca Amari, creator and founder; Mary Rademacher, recently named Jazz Musician of the Year by the West MI Jazz Society; and Barbara Wisse. Mark Kahny who accompanies them on the piano was named Musician of the Year by the West Michigan Jazz Society for 2012. Carol Black now joins the group when one of the original three is unavailable.

The evening’s toe-tapping fun will begin with a dance presentation by the ‘Sassy Dancers’ of LifePlex Dance Academy. Headed up by Chris Collier, she explained, “We will be doing mostly ‘50’s music in ‘Poodle skirt’ attire. We’re using one current song “She’s in Love with the Boy”, which has a ‘50’s bebop sound. We will be inviting attendees to learn a couple of dances.” They will be spending at least 20 minutes teaching simple dances to those in the audience who would like to give it a whirl. “We would love for anyone to just jump up and join us for “Electric Slide”, “Cupid Shuffle”, “Ice Cream Freeze” and “Cowboy Charleston” to “Please” by Miss Scooter Lee…Some of our Red Hat club, ‘Angels in Red’ led by Queen Laughalot, Janice Davis, will be attending and plan to get up and do the simple dances.”

All Music in the Park concerts are in beautiful Centennial Park in the Young Amphitheater at Baker and Randolph Streets. Due to construction, enter on Randolph. Bring a lawn chair, your favorite beverage and a picnic to enjoy this special event in a delightful setting. Delta Theta Tau will also be featuring food and drinks.
