09/20/13 The second annual MoonTree Festival, a weekend event, takes place Friday, September 21 through Sunday, September 22, at MoonTree Studios and The Center at Donaldson. Plein-air painters from all of the regional plein air groups have been invited for a two-day paint-out followed by a juried Sunday show and sale of artwork. Likewise, regional artisans and other fearless creators of all types of art will be present for a Saturday art fair to show their creations and sell their wares. Walking tours throughout the picturesque Center at Donaldson are encouraged, in order to enjoy the plein air painters or simply to enjoy the peaceful scenery. A delightful Saturday evening dinner theater with a talented local cast is planned–Death of a Doornail, by Lee Mueller.

Friday and Saturday, Plein-air artists are asked to register at MoonTree Studios and get a plein-air map, then go paint at one of many locations— idyllic farmland and barns, Lake Galbraith, Ancilla Domini ministry center, gardens and farm animals, a wildflower prairie, shady woods and the country roads around MoonTree Studios.

Saturday, September 21st is the centerpiece day of the festival when a variety of activities will take place, including an outdoor Art Fair. The Art Fair includes artists of various media who will be here demonstrating and selling their work, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Some of the featured artists are Keith Blanton (oil paintings), Carol Fleming (wood carvings and wood turnings), Heather Banas (mandalas, found object art, jewelry, and carvings), Fr. John Zemelko (Sweets for the Sweet, including baklava, fruit rolls and Hawaiian cookie tarts), Lynn Young (handmade drums), and Xenia Czifrik (botanical jewelry, fiber arts & handmade paper, and all-natural body care products). The Country Griller will be serving lunch items, snacks and beverages. And the perfect way to end a happy festival day…the dinner theater performance, with a talented local cast begins with hors d’oeuvre in MoonTree Gallery at 5:00 pm. Dinner and the play take place in Cana Hall in the Ancilla Domini Motherhouse. Dinner theater tickets must be reserved in advance. There will be no tickets sold at the door.
