04/18/13 The National Weather Service has issued a “Flood Watch” for portions of Northern Indiana, including Marshall County from Thursday afternoon through Friday morning.
A “Flood Watch” means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. People living in areas that are prone to flooding in the past should begin preparing now.
Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches or more in some areas is possible.
The combination of heavy rainfall and already moist soils and elevated river levels may lead to significant flooding of low lying areas, ditches, creeks, and rivers. Ponding on roads and washouts may also occur.
In order to avoid a tragedy, remember the following:
Don’t let children play around high water areas such as ditches, creeks or the river.
Don’t drive around barricades that indicate high water is present.
Be especially cautious when driving at night when it is harder to see flooded areas across the road.
