05/03/13 From April 30th through May 31st, Heartland Artists Gallery will open its doors to a unique exhibit of art during the month of May. The title ‘Small Wonders’ refers to the size of the 2D or 3D art, measuring no greater than 12 x 12.”

 The reception will be this Saturday, May 4th from 1:00-4:00 pm at the gallery, located 103 West LaPorte Street in Plymouth, Indiana. The public is invited to attend. The Gallery will also be open this Sunday, May 5th from 1:00-4:00 pm. Regular hours gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10:00-4:00 pm.

 This is the fourth annual exhibit of “Small Wonders” and offers a diverse collection of art mediums: oil, watercolor, pen & ink, acrylic, photography, digital print, copper enamel, pottery and sculpture.

 This show challenges artists who may always paint on a much larger scale, challenging them to capture their art in a smaller format. All of the art is framed or gallery-wrapped, and the majority of the art is for sale. The exhibit shares artistic talent from all of the northern Indiana area and lower southwest Michigan.

 Heartland Artists Gallery would like to thank John E. Thomas, who judged this exhibit. John has been an art educator for 40 years at John Glenn High School and just recently retired. The recipient of 20 national awards, he received his MA from the University of Notre Dame and his BS from Indiana University. Thomas has his art on display in permanent collections at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Evansville Museum of Art and Science.

   Heartland Artists would like to congratulate the winners: best of show, Marilyn Kruger: ‘Trout Lily I’;

  first prize, Michael Hanshew: ‘Waiting’;

  second prize, Lisa Bemish: ‘Juiced Hummingbird’; and

  third prize, Louise Amundson: Jade Pottery.
