Junior Achievement Program at Riverside Seeking Volunteers for 3-12-14

December 19, 2013

12/20/13 Junior Achievement will be bringing J.A. programs to 586 5th and 6th grade students at Riverside Intermediate in Plymouth on the morning of March 12, 2014.

In order to make it happen, they need approximately 40 volunteers from the community to volunteer their morning to share J.A. lessons and their expertise with students!

Working closely with the business and education communities, J.A. delivers programs that teach K-12 students age-appropriate, hands-on lessons about how to develop job skills, make wise career choices, and become financially literate global citizens.

95% of teachers and 92% of volunteers who have brought the J.A. experience to the classroom report J.A. students develop a better understanding of how the real world operates. 76% report that J.A. better prepares students for the world of work, and 75% say that J.A. programs help students realize the importance of staying in school.   J.A. Alumni indicate an 88% increase in the strength of their problem solving skills, 85% in decision-making and critical thinking, and 82% in interpersonal skills.

Jeff Houin from the Plymouth Rotary Club said, “With the help of the community we can provide students with the skills they need for future success!”

Volunteering would consist of spending the morning of March 12th in a classroom, with a teaching partner and the classroom teacher, sharing J.A. lessons and activities with students. There would also be a 1 hour training session 1-2 weeks prior where Junior Achievement would provide you with the training and materials, and everything you need to feel comfortable in the classroom.

Houin closed by saying, “It is a great opportunity to make a difference in the life of a student and in the community in one morning- I hope that you will want to be part of making it happen!”
