07/01/13 The Marshall County REMC Operation Round Up® Fund will begin this July.  Operation Round Up® is a charitable fundraising program that allows members to donate the spare change on their electric bill to help those in need throughout their community.

Operation Round Up® is a program that some 230 co-ops across the country have instituted with a great deal of success and wide acceptance from their membership. We hope to provide that same positive affect on our community with the participation of our members.

When members participate in the program, we “round up” their energy bill to the next dollar.  The difference goes into a special fund distributed by an Operation Round Up Board of Directors. For example, if your bill for one month is $85.75, the bill would be rounded up to $86 and the extra 25 cents would be deposited in the Operation Round Up fund. The board will send the money right back into the community, to the places that need it most.

The Marshall County REMC Operation Round Up® Fund is a separate entity with its own Board of Directors who oversees the funds. The directors of the fund are volunteers from the service territory of Marshall County REMC. The Operation Round Up® directors will receive and review applications from organizations requesting funding for charitable purposes and decide how to distribute the money according to the bylaws of the fund.

Marshall County REMC has partnered with the Marshall County Community Foundation, who will act as the financial administrator for the Operation Round Up® funds. The Marshall County Community Foundation will issue the checks to the recipients as determined by the Operation Round Up® board of directors.

Anyone interested in applying for a grant can find an application in the Marshall County REMC lobby, on our website or by contacting the Marshall County REMC office. Applications will only be accepted if the funds are to be used for crucial community needs such as housing, assistance programs, medical care and education; but is not limited to these categories. Operation Round Up® funds may be used for charitable purposes only.
