11/15/13 Thursday afternoon Indiana State Police Trooper Mike Gruett investigated a two vehicle crash on US 31 south of 13th Road at the railroad crossing.
The crash report shows that 59 year old David Elliott of Goshen was traveling northbound on 31 in a 2013 Kenworth Semi-tanker. The semi was stopped at the railroad crossing as required by state law since he was hauling hazardous material.
A 2012 Ford 4-door driven northbound on US 31 by 42 year old Amy Goodwin of Carmel failed to see the semi-tanker stopped at the railroad and slammed into the read end of the stopped semi.
Ms. Goodwin told Trooper Gruett that her vision was obstructed by bright sunlight flaring off the semi tanker.
Goodwin was transported to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth for pain.
ISP Trooper Gruett was assisted at the scene by Plymouth Fire and EMS, Marshall County Police and Lyons Towing.
