02/22/13 For almost a year, the Northern Indiana Food Bank has hit the road one day each week delivering nutritious food directly to those in need in pre-selected communities in Elkhart, Kosciusko, LaPorte, Marshall, Starke and St. Joseph Counties.
Fresh perishable items including dairy, grains, produce and protein along with dry goods are offered free of charge to northern Indiana residents. The Food Bank’s mobile pantry team set up tables at pre-scheduled locations where people can “shop” and select items that best meet their needs.
The pantries are first come, first served for those in need of food assistance. Mobile Pantry patrons must provide a valid photo ID (driver’s license or Indiana ID) and are asked to bring bags or boxes to transport their items home.
Mobile food pantries serve approximately 300 households during a two-hour time period.
The Marshall County mobile food pantry will be this Friday, February 22nd from 10 a.m. till noon (EDT) at the Indiana National Guard Armory, 1220 West Madison Street in Plymouth.
The Food Bank of Northern Indiana works in partnership to feed the hungry, increase awareness of the effects of hunger, and lead programs designed to alleviate hunger. The Food Bank of Northern Indiana serves Elkhart, Kosciusko, LaPorte, Marshall, Starke and St. Joseph Counties and is a member of Feeding America and Feeding Indiana’s Hungry (FIsH).
